To keep our instructors and students safe, all currently-planned self-defense workshops will be offered on Zoom or in person for fully-vaccinated and masked participants. All workshop registrants will receive the meeting information via email. Please contact us if you do not get a confirmation email within an hour of registering for the workshop.

Prevention Against Identity-Based Violence

When: Sunday, June 6, 2021 – 3:30 PM – 6:30 PM

Open to: Adults and Teens 15+ (all genders)

In this 3-hour workshop, students learn strategies to handle disrespect, harassment, and abuse that they face or witness others facing when it comes to identity-based violence (i.e. religion, gender, sexuality, race)

Through active discussions, scenario role-playing, and hands-on practice, students are empowered with skills to maximize their personal safety. We’ll cover…

  • Assertive communication and de-escalation skills to challenge discrimination based on race, religion, gender / gender identity, sexual orientation, ability, and other factors.
  • Situational awareness and risk assessment
  • Bystander intervention techniques to stand up for others
    Physical self-defense techniques to use in the event of violence

Because of the pandemic, we will be offering this workshop online via Zoom and attendees may pay on a sliding scale.

Violence Prevention for Young Women and Teens

When: Saturday, August 7, 2021 – 3:30 PM – 6:00 PM

Open to: Adults and Teens 15+ (women, teen girls, transwomen, non-binary, genderqueer, gender fluid, female-presenting…)

Young adulthood is a high-risk time for sexual assault, especially by someone you know, but research has found that empowerment self-defense can make a huge difference!

  • 3 Hour workshop for 15 years to young adult (high school, college, and first out on their own) who identify as women, teen girls, transwomen, genderqueer, gender fluid, female-presenting…
  • This workshop addresses topics young women must increasingly navigate — gender-based harassment, creating healthy relationships, school and work environments. Learn and practice skills for awareness, verbal assertiveness, and physical protection. Feel stronger and more confident in everyday situations while also preparing for potentially dangerous situations.

We will be offering this workshop in person for fully-vaccinated and masked participants. Attendees may pay on a sliding scale.

Active Bystander

When: TBD

2 Hour workshop for people of all genders 15 years old and up.

In this election year, in the middle of a pandemic, and during a racial awakening, there has been an increase of hateful speech and hateful behavior. There are things we can do to interrupt verbal and physical hate. We will discuss what gets in the way of taking action and learn skills that address those concerns so that you can assess a situation and decide on a response while keeping yourself safe.

This workshop will cover:

  • Situational awareness and risk assessment
  • Understanding the role of bystanders in interrupting oppression
  • Overcoming Barriers to intervening
  • De-escalation tools
  • Strategies for intervening

After this class, you will feel stronger and more confident in everyday situations.
