The Wall

April 19, 2021

I hit it yesterday. It's that wall that you hit after you've been keeping it together the best you can for a while and you see the hope coming, you relax a little bit, and it all crashes in on you. Sometimes it happens when you're taking care of a sick loved one or some other situation when someone is relying on you and you feel like you have to keep going for their sake. I'm sure we've all hit it at one time or another in our lives, I'm pretty sure I've even written about it in this space before, as we've had plenty of opportunities to crash over the past year. This is just a reminder to be ready for it to happen.

If you've hit the wall before, you know it doesn't take much--just some thing or the other that's out of order, or terrible, or disheartening, and a cascade of emotions gets triggered.  Hopefully, when it happens, you have the support of friends and family to help you through the worst of it.  I had a couple of friends who said a few kind words and were there if I needed more.  We all need that, whether we're in the middle of a pandemic or if we're just living our regular lives and things go south.  We need people.

I've said it before and I'll say it again--Sun Dragon has helped me through the pandemic.  None of us have been perfect as we stumbled through this past year, we've all given help when we had it to give, and accepted help when we've needed it.  Everyone gives and takes in different ways and it's the beauty of community that you can find what you need at different times from different people.  And the person who needs you will be able to find you.

We have challenges ahead of us, right around the corner.  We're figuring out how to live with hope and how to transform hope into a plan to get to the future, whether the future of the dojo or our personal lives.  We can't just flip a switch and be back to normal, we have to build back our confidence, learn how to trust each other again, learn how to be around people without that reflexive fear response.  We're putting together a plan that we hope will take us step-by-step through the process as a community and we can't wait to walk the path with you.
