Learn Seido Karate
Sun Dragon teaches Seido Karate. Seido (pronounced say-doe) is a traditionally-rooted Japanese style founded by Kaicho Tadashi Nakamura. Kaicho founded Seido as a martial art that goes beyond punching and kicking:
Karate is a way of life, a way of being. I have committed over 35 years of my life to the study, practice, and teaching of the martial arts. I am convinced that karate has much to offer modern men, women, and children as we move forward into the twenty-first century. My purpose in founding Seido Karate was to show what I feel is the true essence, the kernel of true karate-do: the training of body, mind, and spirit together in order to realize the fullness of human potential. (Kaicho Tadashi Nakumara)

Benefits of Martial Arts as Violence Prevention
Martial arts training at Sun Dragon is about non-violence. While training to fight, we also train to avoid physical confrontations. Living in strength and peace is always our goal. Knowing a variety of ways to defend ourselves serves that goal.
Community and History
Sun Dragon has been in the Austin area since 1989. We’re a primarily female school that offers training for everyone. See our schedule for dates and times of our women-only, girls-only, and co-ed classes. We’re an affiliate member school of National Women’s Martial Arts Federation (NWMAF), which is a network of women who promote martial arts as a path of self-discovery and transformation. Sun Dragon is honored to be affiliated with Thousand Waves Martial Arts and Self Defense Center in Chicago, Illinois. In January 2007 Sun Dragon began the process of affiliating with the World Seido Organization. The instructors and students of Thousand Waves have been instrumental in facilitating that process. Thousand Waves also embodies the principles of respect, non-violence, and empowerment that have always characterized Sun Dragon, and we are immensely pleased to consider Thousand Waves a sister school. Sun Dragon enjoys interacting with other schools cooperatively through training and special seminars. Our female students are encouraged to participate in the NWMAF’s annual Special Training camp, and Sun Dragon typically sponsors two seminars annually for students to learn from teachers who are nationally recognized experts in their field. Past seminars have included subjects such as sparring, musical forms, rolling and falling, board breaking, and more. In keeping with Sun Dragon’s non-competitive ethic, we do not participate in tournaments as a school. However, we do not restrict students from participating in tournaments independently if they wish.
