Kickathon 2009
If you participated in the Kickathon last year, you know it was awesome. If you didn’t, you’ll get a chance to find out! It’s a great chance to tell people how much you enjoy training at Sun Dragon, show your support, and even compete a little bit with your friends! Our goal is $7,500 last year, and we’re asking people to set a goal of $150 per family to help us reach that target.
Setting Up Your Donation Page
This year, we are using a tool called Dojiggy to make it easier for people to track their fundraising progress and collect donations online. You can register at sundragon.dojiggy.com, or click here to download the registration instructions. If you have trouble, feel free to email Amy (amy@sundragon.org) or Jeremy (jpreacher@gmail.com) and we’ll help you out! If you can’t register online, talk to Sensei Joy about getting a paper sign-up form.
Prizes!
We have lots of great prizes this year for the top fundraisers. The top prizes for the adults include a spa package, and for the kids, one lucky kid and ten of his or her friends will get a karate party at the dojo!
Board-Breaking
Last year’s very popular board-breaking demonstration will return, as well. Kids who get donations from five different people will get to attend a board-breaking class and break a board in front of their family and friends at the Kickathon!
Dates to Remember
September 26st - Registration Deadline for t-shirts
November 6th - Deadline to turn in donations
November 7th - Kickathon!
How Can My Sponsors Donate?
Your sponsors can donate by cash, check, or credit card. To donate by cash or check, include this information with the donation:
Their Name
Your Name
Address (for receipt purposes)
Amount of Donation
Turn in the donation and the information at the dojo.
To donate by credit card, they can donate online at http://sundragon.dojiggy.com. That is the general address - when you create your Dojiggy account, you will get your own donation page. Make sure you give that address to people so you get credit towards the prizes! Donors will receive an email confirmation when they donate, and you can track your progress towards your goal on your Dojiggy page.
Tips on Asking People to Sponsor You
Lots of people find it hard to ask their friends and family to help support them and the things that are important to them. But most people don’t mind being asked, and in fact they like to know what you care about. Tell them what Sun Dragon means to you, and let them know about our scholarship programs, and the low and no-cost self defense courses we offer throughout our community.
Let people know that no amount is too small, and be sure to thank them if (when) they say yes! And remember that if they say no, it’s no big deal. We practice saying no all the time!
Did you participate last year? If you did, think about telling the people who donated on your behalf last year how the year’s gone for you at Sun Dragon. Do you have a higher belt now? Do you like the new dojo? Let them know that you still love Sun Dragon, and about your gassho (appreciation) for their support last year, and ask them if they’ll support you again this year! If you’d like a list of who donated on your behalf last year, speak to Sensei Joy.
