Sera Bonds to Kick Off “Fighting For Justice” Speaker Series

Sera Bonds, founder of Circle of Health International, will give a presentation entitled “In Defense of Self: The Politics of Women’s Health in War and Disaster Areas” on Monday, March 16 at 7:00pm. A discussion and reception will follow the presentation. This free event is sponsored by Sun Dragon Martial Arts & Self Defense and will take place at our school at 4534 West Gate Boulevard, Suite 101.

Ms. Bonds, formerly of Austin, founded Circle of Health International in 2004 to draw attention to conflict- and disaster-affected women’s reproductive health needs on an international scale. She has worked with rural midwives in northern India, Guatemala, Tibet, Palestine, tsunami-affected Sri Lanka and Israel; with commercial sex workers on issues of HIV/AIDS in Vietnam; with female evacuees from hurricanes Rita and Katrina in Louisiana; and with refugee communities in Boston, Massachusetts. Ms. Bonds currently serves as a visiting lecturer and Public Health Scholar-In-Residence at Ben Gurion University in Be’er Sheba, Israel, and was recently selected as a recipient of Boston University School of Public Health’s Distinguished Alumni Award.
